Sunningwell in 1942 as viewed from Lincombe Lane by Mrs E Aitkin.

The original was given as a wedding present to former Boars Hill residents Sir Henry and Lady Rosamond Lawrence and kindly donated by their grandson, Mike Lawrence, via the Boars Hill Association, to Sunningwell Parish Council. It now hangs in Sunningwell Village Hall opposite St. Leonard’s Church.

The footpath to Sunningwell village from Lincombe Lane as it was in 2009.

Note Wittenham Clumps on the horizon slightly left of centre which featured, in exaggerated manner, as the inspiration for several Boars Hill paintings by surrealist Paul Nash who often visited his friend Hilda Harrison who lived on the Hill.

Sunningwell cricket ground with Boars Hill behind. This picture was taken from just off the photo to the right of the houses shown on the previous image. The previous photo was taken from the end of Lincombe Lane at the top of the field behind the cricket ground.
