Chairman’s Summer Party 2018

Ready for the rush: Ray Allen and Ann Loescher on gate duty.

This year’s garden party was held in early July and hosted by our Secretary, Nigel Jones and his wife Jane. Notwithstanding the unexpected competition of England’s quarter-final match with Sweden, not far off 100 guests attended this year’s event.

The principal organisers: Nigel Jones and Kate.

Our new Chairman, Kate O’Donovan, made a particular point of attracting some younger residents by providing suitable entertainment including Aunt Sally, a game traditional to Oxfordshire and environs (being similar to quoits, jukskei and horseshoes) and also croquet.

The gathering crowd – note the hoop flung aloft from the playing area.

The warm sunny weather, with which we have been blessed for some weeks, made this year’s event particularly enjoyable and guests were able to stroll around Nigel’s garden which is often open to the public as part of The National Garden Scheme. Another innovation for the summer party was the issue of a raffle ticket to each guest which was received upon payment of the small entrance fee.  The lucky winner received a bottle of champagne.

Kate and her younger generation raffle expert having just made the draw; and the lucky winner is – John Trethewey!
